new house pics

I never did post any of the pictures of my new house. I took these before I moved in.

This the driveway.  I have some really interesting plantings all over.

This is the front of the house.  See the bush just to the right, it's going to be cut down.  There are three of them and they are huge and take up half the sidewalk.  This house was built in the 60's and these bushes might be that old :)

In the back of this picture you can see my little picnic area.  It's a covered area with a cement floor.  It came with the table and chairs.  I'm not far off the highway but it's really quiet there.

Yes I got a clothesline!  It's not the best but will do for a while and I have my umbrella clothesline as well that I have to put up yet.

This is the back of the house.  The little white building is the well house. It's not working right now but in a few years I hope to get it up and running again (when I have the money). The chaise came with the house.  The small tree on the right is actually two lilacs, one white and one lavender.  The screen in the back of the well house is a clematis vine and honeysuckle.  I even had a little hummingbird tasting the honeysuckle the other day.

Here is the parking garage.

This is the second bathroom.  The metal rectangle is an old heating system that is still in the house.  I'm not going to use it since there is a newer system so I need to find someone to take this out and patch all the holes.  Every room has one of these even the kitchen....

Here is the den walls.  This is the actual wood paneling.  Not that cheap stuff this is tongue in groove paneling.  It's so pretty.

A built in bookcase in the den.  It's full now ;)

Here is my kitchen.  As you can see, it has not been updated since the house was built.  The fridge is from the 60's and still works great.  The house also came with a washer and dryer which would be on the left just out of this picture.  I'm not crazy about having the washer and dryer in the kitchen but this house only has a crawl space.  I think maybe I'll reconfigure the master bath and put them in there.

Here is the dining room.  Not really big room but big enough for the table, four chairs and a couple of storage pieces.

Here is the living room.  There are hardwood floors throughout but the den and bedrooms have new carpeting in them.  When the carpeting wears out, out it goes.  I would much rather have wood floors.  Notice the light in here.  My realtor tried to beg me for it.  Nope it stays forever.  There are some really unique features here.

Here is the bedroom that my mom will be using.  She's coming to live with me in July.  It has a big closet and a ceiling fan.  I didn't realize until after I had moved in that the fan pull is a hummingbird, my mother's favorite bird.  She is bringing hummingbird curtains.  How wonderful is that.  And unplanned too!

Here is the master bath.  The cabinet on the right is really long.  When I get the washer and dryer out of the kitchen that is where I would put them.  There is also a cabinet on the wall above this where I store my toilet paper and towels.  The sinks are really low.  I'll have to have them raised although they are the right height if you are in a wheelchair.  That is real tile on the walls.  I think they put a lot of money in this house when it was built.  No cheap things here.  The flooring is really interesting.  It's linoleum but a real nice pattern.

Here is my bedroom.  There is another bedroom that I made into a craft room.  I didn't realize I had so much crafty stuff.  I'll have to weed out some of it cause my mom crafts also and is bringing her stuff with her.  That's all the pics on the house for now.  Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Ebaying

I had to share some of the things I have gotten off Ebay.  I have another collection started LOL.  Yeah didn't really need to start another one, really I didn't but here they are....

This is from an artist in Russia.  These are the stamps on the package.  Pretty interesting and surprisingly it doesn't take very long to get a package from Russia.

As I said, she is an artist.  Here is the little baby Kangaroo.  She has her own bed and even a little sucker in her pocket. She is all crocheted and is less than 5 inches long.  Her legs and arms move.
This is another of her crocheted creations.  It is a fox and he has removable clothes and shoes and a kerchief on his head.  His legs and arms move also.  He is also 5 inches tall.  His fur is created just by brushing the yarn.  So cute! Then I ordered two more creations from Canada this time.  These came in these two boxes.  Very professional packaging.

These were both sewn and are about 5 inches in height.  The first one is a little girl.  She has a hat and collar and dress.  They are unremovable sewn right onto the little bear.  Her arms and legs and head move.

And here is her companion, a little bunny!  She is also wearing a hat, dress and collar that are sewn right onto her body.  She is the same height and her head, arms and legs move.  So that's the first part of my collection.  Yes I got some more that I'll post later on.

Dr. Quinn show shawls...

I have to admit I've been watching the entire six seasons of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman on Amazon Prime.  Love the series but one thing realllllllllly bugs me.  That's that shawl that is on the left....Reallly bugs me.  Not that I don't love the shawl but it is NOT historically accurate.  Multi-color yarn (variegated) was not invented until 1960!  Every time the actress wears this, it makes me cringe.  I looked online and apparently no one else noticed this.  There are a few other shawls that were not accurate as well.   I guess I'm too picky as the show had a lot of things that were not historically accurate.  I hate it when watching a movie or TV show that is supposed to be set in another time and the costumes aren't correct.  What are your views on this?  Does this shawl bother anyone else?  or is it just me LOL.

Christmas alone

Please remember all the people who have lost loved ones this year.  It's very hard to get through the holidays for them.  Give them a call, visit them and talk about their lost loved one.  Tell stories, laugh and cry with them.  It won't upset them to talk and remember.  It helps with the healing process.

Friends and good times.

I went out last week to a new Indian restaurant with my friend Kathy.  It was wonderful.  Such a good buffet and the company was great as well.  Kathy invited me to her house for Christmas.  She told me not to bring anything.   Wellllll I really think I should so I got her grandkids some little things to play with.  Ha, she can't say anything about that, right?

On Sunday evening I was invited to a Christmas program at the church I used to go to (I'm going to try to go occasionally there but it's 20-25 minutes away from my house).  It was a very talented pianist.  He teaches music at the local college and he is sooooo good.  He did an hour of music and history behind the Christmas songs he played. It was very interesting and entertaining.  The preacher called out Encore, Encore!  He didn't have anything planned so he played an 80's song and worked up a real sweat doing it.

Today I went and took out my friend, Tammy, for her birthday.  I got her a present and she got all choked up.  She said most of the time everyone forgets since her birthday is so close to the holidays.  We went to the Yellow Deli in Pulaski.  If you have one of these restaurants in your area, you have to go.  It's delicious.  They serve just soup, salad and sandwiches.  Reasonably priced and big portions.  We even went shopping afterwards to Regenerations just down the street.  It has antiques and crafts.  I bought a couple of brooches.  We had a good time but Tammy's foot was starting to bother her (she had it operated on last week) and I had to get back to work so we called it a day.

Have you been getting out of the house to enjoy family and friends?  I hope so.  It's important.  Life is short, enjoy it while you can!

Denise

PS:  Oh yeah I started exercising today.  Let's see how long this lasts.

Slapping myself

Yeah I did a dumb thing today.  I locked myself out of the house...no mind whatsoever.  I had my wallet and my car keys but no purse with house keys in it and no cell phone.  I went to the local hardware store and asked if they knew of a locksmith, they did and started to write down his number and then I had to ask to use their phone.  The guy was very nice and let me and even dialed the number.  The locksmith came to the house and proceeded to try to pick the lock.  Yes, I said tried.  1960's locks are pretty sturdy little things and he couldn't get it to open...

So he went around the house looking at the windows (they are all locked) and tried the back door which was locked and chained and then finally went around to the front door where glory be it wasn't fastened all the way but the chain was in place.  Doggone thought it was shut.  He had to take the molding off the side of the door in order to get me in.  He even reinstalled the molding for me which was really nice.  So glad he got me in without having to go to the next step which was drilling out the lock.  All's well that ends well.

Now tell me why I left my purse in the house and only took my wallet...I don't know.  Old Timer's disease LOL

What have all of you been up to?  Lock yourselves out lately?

Keeping my purse and keys close,
Denise

New life, new friends and good times

Well just to keep you updated if anyone is actually reading this, I sold my house in Alabama and then bought a 3 bedroom house in TN.  My mom is coming to live with me.  She's alone, I'm alone so we'll be alone together, LOL.  It's taking me a while to move as I have to do it when I have time.  Work has been slamming me which is good in one way but bad in another, if you know what I mean.  Getting furniture again is something.  So expensive and I really have to rely on my friends to get it here when I don't buy in a store.  I still need a couch but things are looking better even though I don't have all the boxes and bags unpacked.

I had two dogs for a while but after I got them fixed (one was a female and the other was a male) the female went missing.  Another female showed up a few months later, a black lab mix, and I was going to keep her but she turned out to be more of an attack dog, she attacked the neighbors goats and I couldn't deal with that.  She also was snapping at me so I called the local dog catcher and they came and got her.  I still have the male dog, Buddy and he is a sweety.  I only had the one cat, Tikki, but when I was looking at houses there was one that had some kittens and one of them was black so of course I had to have him.  He is such a lovebug :)  He makes me laugh and I really needed to do that since I was under pressure with buying the house.  Now that I am in the new house, Buddy is outside and the cats are inside.  I tried to have Buddy in here but he decided that the carpet was yard and did his business several times even after being corrected about it and he chased the cats all over.  Like have wild kingdom in the house... so he is outside and he likes it out there.  Although he has to stop barking at the deer.  The guy that hooked up my internet was surprised at how happy Buddy was to see him.  Well he called him Buddy when he saw him so of course he's his friend now :)  Maybe I should have picked another name?

Getting everything out of the storage shed is a bummer.  There were mice in there.  They didn't get into my yarn thanks to having storage bins made out of cedar chips but they got into the cardboard boxes and pooped everywhere.  Such a mess.  Of course having everything in the shed for two years didn't help either but I am slowly cleaning things up and putting them away which is why it's taking me so long to get things put away here.

Well will close for now,
Hope you all have a good one!

Moving on

Well I sold my house in Alabama sort of...The buyers were waiting for some paperwork to come in and today the realtor called me and they had gotten that paperwork in.  YAY!  But...now it has to go through another government office for approval (BOO) and they are backed up over ten days...

Praying that everyone gets their s@!* together soon.   The buyers have already moved in and are paying rent until we get the paperwork done.   I was so happy to get a refund check of the deposit from the electric company yesterday.  No more paying for utilities on that house, no more worrying about mowing the yard.

Been looking for another house up here in TN.  I want something I love not just like cause I don't plan on moving again if I can help it but you know the best laid plans...

The dogs are doing well and the cat is doing well.  I went fleaing yesterday and will try to post pics here soon of what I got.  Not a lot but some really pretty things.

Talk to you later!

Just a quick note...

to let you know that I'm still here.  Just waiting to sign the papers yet for selling my home in Alabama.  Then I'll be looking for a home in Tennessee.  I've had enough of the cabin.  Will update you when something happens!

spring is here

I'm hanging in there. I won't lie to you, it's been hard. My cat and dog are happy and healthy. It's been raining off and on the past couple of weeks and did I mention it's spring? So rain plus warmer weather equals mowing. So yesterday I went out to start up the ol John Deere and
...
nothing. Nada. Not even a click. Hmmm. Opened up the hood. Now I don't know much about mowers but I think I need a new battery and maybe just maybe those chewed on nutshell shouldn't be under the hood. Just a guess but I don't think they're supposed to be there. So my friend's husband is coming over to check the battery and maybe he'll be able to help me get all those nuts out. Crazy squirrel anyway lol. I'll have to take a picture of it.

Merry Christmas

Christmas is only one week away. Are you ready?

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I haven't updated here since August so here goes...

a stray dog showed up, I fed her and she stayed. I named her Duchess.

my oldest cat Roxy went outside into the woods and never came back. I figured the weasel got him.

another stray dog showed up, I fed him and he stayed. His name is Buddy.

my female cat, Penny, went outside into the woods and never came back. I think the weasel also got her.

my uncle Gene was diagnosed with cancer before my husband lost his battle and died in September.

I got my well dug but am saving for a pump.

my aunt Jean died. She was 92 and not the wife of the uncle who died.

I got a propane gas tank and heater installed. Just waiting for my cook stove from Sears.

And that's about all that's happened since August. I think I need a nap LOL.

I'm hanging in there. Each day is a little brighter. It will be hard during the holidays.

If I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all

I got back from PA and first thing I checked on the animals.  The chickens were highly upset, one was on the fence, one was running around, one had blood on her head and yes one was dead in the coop. There was a big hole in the screen on the window.  I cleaned it all up, closed the window until I could get some hardware cloth on it.  Two of the chickens were pecking at the one with blood on her head (Katie) so I left her out of the pen.  My cats looked like they had lost weight, not a good thing for the 16 year old.  I fed everyone including myself and had a nap.  That night I had to pick up Martha and actually put her into the coop.  Katie I left out and she headed to the woods and slept there overnight.

The next day I got up and found Martha dead in the coop.  The weasel which is what I thought it was had ripped open the little metal air flow screen on the back of the coop.  Esther was really upset.  I let Katie back in the pen so her and Esther could be together.  Cleaned up the coop again, got the hardware cloth out and sealed all the openings with it.  I figured that the remaining chickens would do better on their own out in the woods for the night so let them go.  In the middle of the night I heard Esther screaming, I grabbed my flashlight and saw her running for the opposite side of the road.  I walked out over to the coop and there underneath one of the trees were these little red beady eyes looking at me...yep a weasel.  Evil little thing. I told it to leave my chickens alone.  I would have gotten my gun out and shot it but it's not a good idea to shoot if you can't see where your bullet might end up.

The next day Katie showed up but Esther didn't.  So now I have one chicken who sleeps in the woods at night and is under the pine tree by the front door during the day.  I think she's lonely for another chicken.  I hate to give her away cause she is part of the family.  The cats look for her every morning.  Every time I go out the door there she is clucking at me.  I suppose I could get another chicken.

I called a well drilling company before my dad died and found out that my land is not wide enough for their equipment so yes you guessed it, I can't get a well dug.  If I can't get a well, I can't get the sewage permit so I can get electricity.  Catch 22.  So now I'm looking for another place to live cause without water there's no sense in even putting any money into this place.

On a better note, I got the AL house listed yesterday.  Yipee!  Can't wait until it's sold so I don't have to pay any more on it.  When it's sold, I'll start saving that money for a new place.  I have to keep thinking good thoughts.

Hope to post more in the future and it will be good news...I hope

Made it through

Dad's memorial service on Saturday.  It was really nice.  We had a regular service and then a military service.  The local honor guard came and did a 21 gun salute, gave Mom a flag and played taps.  They also gave her three gun shells - one for God, one for country and one for family.  Dad will also get a bronze marker in the cemetery.

If you have a veteran in your family, please ask about getting your local honor guard to do part of the service.  It is free for all veterans.  And it's very moving to hear the guns and taps being played.

Please keep praying for my Mom.  I'm going back to Tennessee this week and she will be alone for the first time here at the house since my Dad died.  They were married for 54 years and it's going to be tough for her.
Thanks,

Denise

Another death in the family

My father passed away on the 18th from a massive heart attack and stroke.  Not much I have to say about it.  I miss him very much and still grieving of course for my husband.  Life goes on.  Seems like it should stop or at least pause for a moment though.

Update

I just wanted to thank everyone for their prayers.  My husband died last month after fighting so hard against the cancer that had spread throughout his body.  He was in a great deal of pain.  I know he is in a better place now.  I'm dealing with my grief.  He was my everything.  I miss him.  Again I appreciate all your prayers.

Cancer update

Hubby had a stomach tube placed last week and the feedings were going great but on Monday he complained in the afternoon of stomach pain and his leg being swollen so I took him to the ER.  They admitted him and did lots of tests.  He had a blood clot in his leg and one near his kidney.  His stomach tube was OK although he was dehydrated because of the diarrhea (from the tube feedings).  He had two units of blood transfusion on Wednesday and they kept him because of his low white count until today.  He is now getting his chemo and after it is done he gets to go home YAY.   I'm rather tired.  Don't know why :)

I went home yesterday early and called my friend and she and her husband delivered some more wood to get us through some of the chilly nights.  I don't want DH to get too cold.  Bless our friends.  They have really come through for us...

Last night I heard something strange outside.  The cats make noise but this sounded different.  I went out with my flashlight.  I bring the chicken feeder up on the porch at night and here was a furry butt sticking up out of the middle.  I told Mr. furry butt to get out of the feeder and here it was a raccoon. I guess he thought the jig was up cause he got down and jumped off the porch.  I put the feeder in the house.  No more free food for him...I don't need a raccoon around.  I thought we had a possum.  We had some tracks in the chicken yard and the feeder was dragged under the chicken coop so that's why I started putting the feeder on the porch.  That worked for a while but Mr. furry butt is just a bit too smart for me LOL.  And the cats didn't even do anything when he was there...nice...I have the worst guard cats in the world ;)

Well that's all for now,

Denise

Busy week

It has been a very busy week.  DH has been going to radiation every day and then chemo on Tuesday.  He had a bit of a freak out with the mask they do the radiation therapy with and so he now is taking Alprazolam for anxiety.  Well he does have claustrophobia, can't say I blame him for freaking out a little bit with the mask and being strapped down to the table so he can't move.  He couldn't eat anything (Boost) on Sunday but was drinking juice and water but on Monday he had a hard time drinking.  The mouth tumor had swollen up so when we went in on Monday we asked about a stomach tube and he had it placed on Wednesday and is now on tube feedings.  He stayed in the hospital on Wednesday night and I picked him up on Thursday.  He is feeling much better and looks a whole lot better.  He kept saying I thought I was dead.  Seems they left him in the hallway alone at one time.  He was having a lot of pain after the procedure too.

To place the tube, the doc runs a little light on the end of a tube down the nostril to the stomach and pushes it up against the stomach towards the outside.  He can see that light and then makes the incision from that.  There is a little balloon that holds the tube in place so it won't pop out and then there is a disc on the outside.  He has cans of food that I put down the tube every five hours.  Right now he is only taking one but he should be up to 2 cans every feeding by Monday.  Don't want to overfill his little tummy :)  And you definitely don't want him to cough either when you are feeding him cause it comes back up the tube, yuck.

Hope everyone has a very Happy Easter!

too funny!
